Description

Brecon Beacons 10 Peaks

The Brecon Beacons is Britain’s most southerly mountain range. These beautiful mountains are the play ground of the elite SAS and the Brecon Beacons 10 peaks challenge forms a stunning  mountain expedition. This 4 day, 90km journey climbs over 4800m  and provides superlative views from the iconic red sandstone ridges and escarpments over mid-Wales to the north and the Seven Estuary to the south. Starting from Tal-y-Bont reservoir you will travel to the routes most westerly point  Bannau Sir Gaer, the Black Mountain (not to be confused with the Black Mountains) before returning over the iconic Pen-y-Fan and Corn Du. The mountains climbed during this trip are:

  1. Fan Fawr (734m)
  2. Fan Llia (632m)
  3. Fan Brycheiniog (802m)
  4. Bannau Sir Gaer (749m)
  5. Fan Gyhirych (725m)
  6. Fan Nedd (663m)
  7. Fan Frynych (629m)
  8. Pen y Fan (886m)
  9. Cribyn (795m)
  10. Fan y Big (719m)

Depending upon the time of year this expedition may include wild camping, youth hostels or involve a mixture of both. On the nights spent camping we will find after walking a secluded wild campsite where we  can enjoy the solitude, rest, cook and enjoy stunning sunsets and sunrises. The Brecon Beacons is an International Dark Sky reserve and if we are not to tired we may also marvel at the milky way and bright starlit sky.

Your guide will set a comfortable and sustainable pace and will do everything he can to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience. Over the 5 days walking we may encounter a range of weathers and in the event of poor weather it may not be possible, for safety reasons, to summit all 10 peaks. Your guide however will try his best to ensure we achieve our objective and complete the challenge.

This is a demanding walk and for most walkers a testing challenge. It is a rewarding journey in its own right but also a great way to raise money for a charity close to your heart. Fitness is key to overcoming the physical and mental demands and to help you prepare for this grand endeavour and if you book the Welsh 10 Peaks with Threesixteen we will support your preparation by offering Base Camp Adventures and Wild Camping experiences at a 25% discount.
