Self-guided Mountain Walking Holidays

Self-guided Walks in the Lake District

We are now providing private and small group self-guided mountain walking holidays and short breaks from our beautifully positioned guest house in Natland, Kendal. The historic town of Kendal is less than a mile from the boundary of the Lake District National Park and is commonly referred to as the “Gateway to the Lakes.” With its excellent transport links it makes the ideal base to explore not only the beautiful Lake District (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), but also the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Forest of Bowland, Eden Valley, North Pennines, Furness Peninsula, and parts of the Yorkshire Dales.

Self-guided Mountain Walking Holidays and Short-breaks in the Lake District.

Our single centre self-guided mountain walking holidays allow you to explore the beautiful Lake District and surrounding area in your own time and at your own pace. We can provide you with a graded walking itinerary (itineraries are graded easy, classic and challenging) or help you select your walk after considering your interests, fitness and the weather conditions.

Self-guided mountain walking holidays can start on a day of your choice and last from 2 or more nights. It is up to you how many walks you undertake and when to include any rest days. Transport to the start and from the finish of your walks is included, taking away the hassle and worry of parking and allowing you to consider both circular routes and walks that start and finish in different locations. All our walking holidays also include transport to and from Oxenholme railway station or Kendal coach station allowing you to leave the car at home and enjoy a more relaxing journey.

When you return at the end of your day you will be welcomed home with a hot drink and a tasty treat. Our self-guided walking holidays include breakfast, packed lunches and a hearty evening meal.

Self-guided mountain walking holidays are perfect for both a one-off visit or for those who would like to walk in the Lake District and surrounding area again and again.

Extra – Guided Mountain Walk

Self-guided holidays do not include the services of a mountain leader. If you would like to include one or more days guided walking in your stay than please let us know. Perhaps at the start of your holiday you would like an introduction to mountain navigation or an opportunity to brush up on your mountain navigation skills. Perhaps during your break there is a mountain you have always wanted to climb or a walk you have always wanted to complete. Please let us help you explore, discover, develop and enjoy the mountains. If you have booked a self-guided holiday a qualified Mountain Leader costs £110.00 per day.

Your guide is Lathan. Lathan has over 35 years walking experience, is a qualified Mountain Leader and holds a current mountain first aid certificate.
